I'm a Big Boy Now

For the past three years Isaac has had a serious "binki" addiction. For the past year the rule in our house has been, only at bedtime. The time had come to say good bye. Isaac and I had many talks about how he was a big boy, his binki wasn't good for his teeth, etc. Lots of tears during these talks. He was losing a best friend, and I wanted to cry too, but seriously HE IS THREE, it was time!

Friday night we went to build-a-bear. Isaac picked out a toy, and kissed his binki one last time, and into the toy it went. Probably sounds silly to most of you, but I was almost in tears, thinking of how grown up Isaac is. Time has gone by so fast.

Isaac was very brave, and there weren't any tears from him until after his bath. It suddenly hit him that he wasn't going to get his "binki" when he got into bed that night. He cried (my feelings are hurt cry) for a good 15 min, and there hasn't been a tear since. I am SO PROUD of him.

Here he is just a few days old. . . the plug was as big as his head!

Six months. . . all ready getting into mischief.

One year. . . his first make-up incident. . . little did I know there would be many to follow!

Two years old, and one cool boy!

Looking back at these pictures, reminds me how fast time really does fly. A good reminder to enjoy each and every moment (the good and the bad!). I love you Isaac!

Yea! That is so good! The build-a-bear idea is so great! I saw something on Super Nanny or something once where they sent the binki in an envelope to the "binki fairy". The next day the kid went to the mailbox and the fairy had the envelope filled with little prizes... seemed to work for that kid, but I think your idea was great!

Hey!- fun post! Ok- I need your address. Remember you were one of the winners from my pay it forward contest back in november, and I had 365 days to get it done? Well, I couldn't make you wait any longer! So anyway, if you could email me your address , that would be excellent, and then make sure to be on the lookout! k- talk to you soon! -Fawn-

Luke uses his binki for sleeping, and I'm trying to figure out a way to get rid of it without going back to newborn sleeping habits. You'll have to tell me how it goes with Isaac~

Yay for breaking the binki habit! That is a really great idea too! That first one is huge!!! Did they give you that one in the hospital?

Such a good idea. You are so creative. I don't know that I will recognize Isaac w/o a binki.

Of course I remember you, and think about you often. I even tried searching the internet for you a couple of years ago but had no luck. How did you find me?

I might need to send Carson your way. He's almost 2 1/2 and is seriously in need of a way to lose the paci. He's more than addicted.

Gotta love those binkys! After Atticus turned 2 I was ready to ditch the bink and one morning when I couldn't find it he threw such a fit that I decided then and there that he would never have one again. After I found it I ripped the silicon off the base and showed him that it was broken. He tried to fix it for a while, but eventually gave up and went on with life. He even took a nap that day!!!!

All that matters is that you found something that works- though I'd be afraid that in a moment of desperation he'd break into the build a bear to retrieve the long lost friend =)
