Isaac gave me quite the scare today. I was busy folding laundry when he started screaming bloody murder. Scared me right away because I have never heard him yell like that. I ran to him and I immediately knew something was wrong with his eye. Second thing I noticed, as I surveyed the room, was a cup with a straw (you know the hard straws that come with the cup). So I guessed pretty quickly what had happened, and I got pretty nervous.
I became even more nervous when he refused to open his eye for me. I kept asking him to try so I could see his eye. Every time he tried his eye would roll back, freaking me out even more. . . then I noticed blood on his eye ball. By this time I was crying with him.
I called Mike to come home (we only have one car right now), and then called his doctors office, who told us we could come in right away. By the time Mike got home Isaac could open his eye, and the blood was gone, but I could see a definite scratch.
Amazing how fast you eyes heal though. By the time we got to the Dr.'s office, you could barely see the scratch, but the deepest part was still clearly visible. Isaac's doctor put some iodine on his eye, looked at with a black light and the image I saw was a little freaky. The iodine sinks into the cut and then glows florescent yellow. Isaac's cut ran from the corner of his eye (by the bridge of his nose), ending just on the colored part of his eye.
Thankfully it didn't go any deeper and there wasn't a flap, and thankfully it didn't go any further and cover the pupil. His doctor said it was just a minor corneal abrasion, but because it is a little longer than she was hoping we have to go back in for a check up in two days.
I am SO THANKFUL it was only a "minor" scratch, and also thankful that Mike answered his phone and was able to get home so quickly. I am also thankful that we were able to find such a nice doctor. . . I have been looking for awhile (thanks Janette for the tip!!). Basically tonight I am full of THANKS!

My mom told me this afternoon, but didn't have any details...we are so glad that it was 'minor'. We'll keep him in our prayers.
Wow, that has to be a relief. I was on my toes the whole time i was reading it. So, I really don't know about the whole Michelle and Jamen thing. I am just waiting to hear from them what is going on.
how scary! i'm so glad he was okay! sounds like something ethan would do for sure:)
Oh, poor Isaac! (and poor mom). I have cut my cornea before and there are few things that hurt worse. Hope it heals super fast!
That's crazy!! Glad everything is okay! Is Isaac now banned from using straws?
No Kidding! I would be thankful too! It is hard when your kids are hurt. I remember my little brother scratched his eye one time on a branch of a tree. He had to wear a patch and my mom had to put this goop in his eye every day. So be yes, thankful is good! :-)
Oh, I am so sorry that happened! That is awful and I would've been right there crying too! And the feeling of being stranded and helpless doesn't make it any better. Thank goodness you are such a good mom and handled everything so well!
Poor kid! And poor you! I am glad everything was alright. What a blessing that Mike could get home quickly and to have a good dr!
Hope all is well!
Marielle
I'm so glad he is ok!
Wow Scary!! Glad that everything turned out ok!!
I could only imagine how I would feel in your shoes as I was reading this, and i was seriously getting teary-eyed! (it probly also doesn't help, with being all hormonal at the same time) anyway, I am so glad their wasn't more serious damage, and that he should be fine. Poor little guy!
Holy Smokes!!! Yeah I would have been freaking out. Girl I need to come live with you for a while. I will learn all sorts of stuff. Bless your heart. You one strong Momma!
