Not What I Bargained For

This morning, I went in for a routine cleaning, with a new dentist. My wisdom teeth have been bothering me, and I assumed she would give me a referral to a surgeon. When she said they were easy enough for her to extract, and would be done in an hour. No consultations, no anesthesia, I was all for it. THREE HOURS later, she still was working on the FIRST tooth. She said "I guess your bones, are denser than I thought they would be." I honestly thought she was going to break my jaw.

Next thing I know she is having me get into her car, and rushing me to an oral surgeon. Now I was wide awake, but really I think pain makes you loopy. . . so I was more than willing to go along with the flow. Plus what else could I do, she had all ready sawed my tooth into a few pieces.

The oral surgeon looks in my mouth, and x-rays, and says these teeth will not come out easily. You will need to be put completely under. So now I get to go in tomorrow for emergency extraction of my tooth, or pieces of it, and will have two other teeth taken out at the same time.

In the mean time I get to lie around at home in pain. And to think yesterday I thought I was in pain with infected gums around my wisdom tooth. That was NOTHING! Wish my luck, as I try to make it through the night. . . and I guess the next week. Darn my stubborn teeth! chipmunk pictures to come!

My poor husband had a similar experience right before his mission when he had his wisdom teeth extracted and it is still a traumatic experience for him to go to get his teeth cleaned every 6 months. I hope you recover soon. They say there are not very many things worse than tooth pain.

Wow Brooke. You appear to be very calm about this crazy experience. Just reading your story mad me sooo mad! I wish for you a quick procedure and short recovery period. And then I hope you make this dentist pay for your oral surgery bills!

are you kidding-- i can't even imagine-- she took you in her car??? thought she could do it herself????

i had a traumatic dentail/orthodontic experience. when it came time to get my wisdom teeth pulled i knew i wanted to be under and not remember a thing-- it still sucked afterward-- but when i woke up i asked the nurse (my mouth full of gauze) when they were going to start. she just said, "oh, honey we are already through." that was awesome-- but it definitely hurts for a while-- not to mention the already hurting disturbed area-- seriously email me the name of this motard--

oh my gosh! How sad for you. 3 hours is a long time to sit in the dentist chair. Good luck with the surgery, hopefully everything will go better and you wont be in to much pain

Ouchie!! DJ had two of his wisdom teeth pulled without anesthesia and he said it was the worst pain he could have imagined. When he needed the other two removed, he went under from the get-go. I'm so sorry that happened to you!
