Mind Your Manners

Blogging. What is it about blogging that makes it so addictive? I have found myself thoroughly entertained, blog surfing, countless times. Even finding myself sometimes disappointed, when those blocked signs pop up. The ones that shout out "Mind your own business!"

Here are a few of my thoughts, and I would love to hear your opinions. First off if it's a public blog, it's free reign. Am I wrong? I don't mind people looking at mine. The more the better. I LOVE when people post comments. It's like getting an e-mail, but so much easier. I love when I open my blog and see x amount of comments, and a little bummed when there aren't any. (Maybe I am just a little too addicted!)

So when do you leave a comment? Every time you visit someones blog? You know, common courtesy saying you've been there. Even if it's just a "hi", I read your post. Easy right. . . when it's someone you are friends with. What about someone you know, but you don't know if they know you, or they don't like you? I don't want to feel like an idiot commenting and the person thinking "What? Who is this?" or "Why would are they looking at my blog?" For me personally, I would love if EVERYONE who reads my blog commented. Brightens my day! (By the way Chelsea, thanks for stepping up to the plate and going first!)

So what do you guys think? Should I not be reading other people's blogs? Do I comment every time? Do I read, and then slip away like I was never there? SERIOUSLY maybe I just think too much!!

Like I said early I like to think of this as my little cyberspace journal, and an e-mail to all of my friends out there. Since I have been reading, how much people love fall. . . this goes out to all of my blogging buddies (known and unknown!) :

I agree about reading other people's blogs. I think everyone does it. Or at least I do it too. And the comments thing does raise a good question. I read your blog a lot but almost never comment because I don't really have anything to say. But I too feel that excitement when I see that someone has left a comment. I had a blog a few years ago and gave it up because no one ever read it. Leaving comments is motivation to keep posting. You know you are being heard.

I think that blogging is so addictive for me because I don't have many people to talk to here. "Y'all" probably get that feeling too, right?! And with 2 little kids it's hard to talk on the phone to everyone everyday, so blogging is the solution. It usually takes a few minutes here and there. I have no problem with the world reading my blog, but then it kinda creeps me out thinking of everyone that DOES look at it. We have sitemeter and it shows where people in the world are looking at it. That being said, I would LOVE if everyone commented. I don't comment on a lot of peoples blogs, but if I am an established stalker I will usually comment. It takes awhile to finally "step up" and admit to it. Then it's fair game and then you would wish to ban me! :)
I feel like commenting is like when someone signs your yearbook in jounior high and you get so excited to read what they wrote. I hate when I click on one that is blocked. It's such a let down. I love that blogger says that maybe there has been a mistake. Yes, there is a mistake, I can't stalk you now! Back to insurance: document every conversation and keep fighting it. They will eventually give in I hope!!! Wow, another novel. I promise I won't be so long winded next time!

I agree I love getting comments too! I have the delima many times on if I should comment on peoples blogs. I love to hop around and sometimes I get that should I comment will they remember me feeling. I am down for any one looking at my blog. I think it is so much fun to run into people in the blogging world that you rarley see or would have never seen again if it wasnt for blogging...it is so fun to keep in touch with people. Living away from home makes me enjoy it even more I think. So I will be honest I am addicted too. It is so much fun. By the way I love Happy Fall Y'all!

This sound a lot like my entry about being addicted to blogging. I don't think you have to feel the need to comment on every entry you read. Sometimes it won't be interesting to you and other times, like you said, the person may not care that people are commenting on her blog. I personally absolutely love that people comment. I want to know what they thought and if they agree, etc.
I think some people are too lazy to comment and others are too shy to let you know that they read your blog. I know that there are people reading my blog that never comment--brats.
I guess the only way to make sure you get people who comment to read your blog is to lock it, so that you have control over who is reading it.

I 100% agree with you. Comments welcome! I hate the blogs that are 'blocked'. How rude, right? And I LOVE your fall decoration. Is it a card or a sign? TOO CUTE!

Hey Brooke! I agree that comments are great and that it is fun to hear from best friends, old friends, acquaintances, or someone you have lost touch with that finds your blog! I also love comments and try to leave them on others blogs as often as possible but I also think I am the last person in America who still has dial-up! So for me it depends on the day and how my lame Internet connection is that day to determine if I want to hassle with it! HAHA! Hopefully that should change one of these days! :) I say keep on commenting. I haven't met anyone yet who doesn't like it!
p.s. I agree I am a bit addicted too! But there is nothing wrong with that! I think it is a great way to keep in touch and focus on the positive in life.

Hi Brooke, long time no see. I just found your blog and realized I'm a total comment brat (thanks to Audrey's bluntness) Your kids are so cute- Isaac's so big and I didn't even know you had a second. Congratulations. I've been looking through blogs for the last couple days and it's so fun to see what everybody's up to!

Yeah....this conversation is way old, but I'd thought I'd weigh in anyway...hope you see it. :)

I get a lot of comments now. Most all of them are from others who blog. Many of my friends didn't ever leave comments (but I knew they were reading because they'd give comments over email or phone or whatever) until they actually started blogging themselves.

I don't leave comments unless I have some sort of established relationship with the blogger (like I know them in real life or from 2peas generally), or unless they have commented frequently on my blog (I've been blogging for nearly 3 years, and have started getting several readers I don't know personally), or unless I found what they had to say very interesting and just couldn't keep my mouth shut.

I do love getting comments, so I give them whenever I can.

I also have a sitemeter. Lets me see just how many people are looking and so it makes me feel almost as good as getting a bunch of comments. :)
