Ouch

Just got a phone call from Isaac's dentist office. Our insurance won't cover the hospital bills or anesthesia. . .$1,500. Little stunned right now. I don't know what's going to happen next. Do we just fork out the money, look for someone else, try to convince insurance they should cover it? Sure puts a damper on my day though.

Just get him dentures and be done with it I say! Seriously, that really stinks. We had to fork out $1,800 out of pocket the summer Derek had a root canal.
As per my genealogy post, the best way to start is to download the free Personal Ancestry File (PAF 5.2 I think is the most current) software from the church's website and begin filling in what information you have. Then, start calling people, such as your parents and get information you are missing. Then, you play around with those websites I list. It's so not hard to get going, don't be intimidated at all!

medical or dental won't pay? If it is dental you maybe able to involve medical ins and get some help. It never hurts to try. Good luck.

Dental won't pay for an anesthesia or the surgery center. Medical won't pay because it's dental. I asked if I could even send in a narrative from the dentist say it's medically necessary because of Isaac's age. . .

well this might make you feel alittle better. I work with patients and Insurance company's every day and what you have to pay is no where close to what I have seen. We have patients that have to pay like 4,000 or more out of pocket before they can have anything done. Dental insurance helps but it is nothing like health ins. When I had my dental work done a few months ago, if I did not have dental ins it would have been 950$
of out my pocket but my dental helped alittle its more like a discount card is what it really is. My total ended up being 450$ what sucks is when you have to pay that all up front and not in payments, if you could do it in payments it would be ok. Sometimes medical will pick up it depends on what the patient is having done. Sometimes if you ask the doctor they will let you pay a little at a time. Dont stress it. Everything will work out. And your doing it for your child so its all worth it. It might be hard but its better then paying even more money down the road becasue you could not get it fixed now. Everything will be ok. If you have questions about Ins let me know. I dream that stuff becasue I deal with it so much.

He hasn't had the procedure done yet, right?

That totally stinks! Our medical paid for Chloe's anesthesia and hospital because she was under the age of 7, even though it was dental.

Could you hold off on it for a few months and get an AFLAC hospital or Dental policy for him?

Or, do you have a flexible spending account with your insurance, and if you don't, can you get one really quick? That helps a lot because they'll pay for it and then you just get it taken out of your paychecks, and it's tax sheltered.

At the very least, the hospitals often give discounts if you call them and explain the situation. They'll do payment plans or percentage off discounts if you pay in full. I've done both.

Good luck. I hate stuff like this, and I swear we are dealing with one thing or the ohter and insurance all the (freaking) time!

Oh, and I'm on LA Weightloss. I like it, but it's extremely expensive. My mom is helping me and I pay the rest. I think I'll write a blog about it soon because a lot of people have asked.

Hey I'm stalking you...but I know you have probably seen my blog too! :) Too many common friends, and we went to C-town with Mike. Anyways...I had to say something about your insurance dilema...FIGHT IT!!! It will take more tears and fights than you will ever imagine, but do it! We had to fight a few of my sons surgeries and we FINALLY won them!! It was awful and hard, but sooo worth it. I wouldn't mind helping you if you wanted the help knowing your rights and what ever with your plan. Sorry to butt into your business. I just HATE dealing with insurance and I know the many many ways they can be sneaky. We have individual insurance and they are the worst at trying to stick you with bills. Good luck!!

First...I added you for easier access to your blog! :) It's too hard to click to one and then the other and so on!
Second...try and see if the hospital or doctors office can code the procedure differently so that it shows that its medically necessary. I would also try and show medical records of any past sickness or problem he has had and link it to his teeth being infected or whatever word you would want to use. Does he get ear infections? If so you could link that to his teeth, and so on. Does that make sense?
Third, if for some reason the doctor's wont recode and insurance wont cover it...some doctors offices if you pay cash upfront will give you a HUGE discount. They get to pocket that money so it's worth it to them to do it that way.
Fouth, I will be anticipating your novel!:)
Fifth, I saw you were looking for Chay's email awhile back. They are not it texas anymore. I am helping her start a blog so you can check into her life easier! We are going out of town next week and I'll be with her. So I will pass on a hello, and you'll be hearing from her shortly...hopefully!:) They have weird internet problems and so it has been hard for her to even check emails.
Sorry for the longest comment.
